About Ben Matheson

I am a web developer who builds websites and visualizations to bring complex topics to life. My clients include those who aim to:

  • explain new academic research
  • dig into public policy to a broader audience
  • explore concepts with powerful maps 🌎
  • deliver custom interactive web calculators and visualizations

My work is centers on a four-way venn diagram of: web development 🤝 design 🤝 storytelling 🤝 data analysis.

My favorite types of projects are curiousity-driven investigations and making use of untapped and often messy datasets.

🔨💻 My core data tools include R (+tidyverse, Quarto). For web, I love to use Mapbox-GL and D3, and Svelte.

I've worked with foundations, non-profits, city governments, and large universities.
At the start of my career, worked as a public radio reporter across rural Alaska and have covered the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race several times. ⛰️ I love getting into the backcountry for mountain biking, trail running, and cross-country skiing.🥵
